Parent Participation

As a community managed centre, GreythornECC encourages the voluntary contribution of parents to help ensure the provision of the highest quality care to the children as well as maintaining a competitive fee structure.  We believe parents and staff are valuable resources for each other and parent participation plays an important role in the care and development of the children.  There is an expectation that families at GreythornECC make a voluntary contribution of time and/or resources in areas that they are most comfortable with and where they feel they have the most to offer.

Parents are required to achieve a minimum of 100 points worth of participation for every 6 month period.  Each point is worth $1, which equates to a contribution of time and/or resources of $100 per 6 month period.  Points are accumulated and calculated every June and December and parents not contributing the minimum required points will be charged a Parent Participation Levy.

There are many ways parents can contribute: becoming members of the Committee of Management, attending Parent Information Sessions, contributing to Working Bees, spending an hour of time with children in the Centre on specific programs, assisting with administrative tasks or small tasks such as fixing a broken table or sewing new cushion covers.

The emphasis of the parent participation system is as much on the contribution as the outcome. Participating parents all agree that they gain as much in terms of perspective of the Centre and fostering of community spirit as they give.
