Our History

Established in 1997 on Trentwood Avenue in Balwyn North, Greythorn Early Childhood Centre and Kindergarten (GreythornECC) has been providing exceptional long day care services to the local community for more than 28 years. Originally founded as a 40-place Early Childhood Centre with funding from the City of Boroondara and the National Childcare Strategy, GreythornECC has undergone a remarkable journey of growth and expansion to our current 91-place service.

In January 2017, GreythornECC temporarily relocated to the site of the Balwyn Leisure Centre for 18 months to facilitate the North Balwyn Hub project. This transition paved the way for a significant milestone in September 2018, when the center returned to its original site with an enhanced capacity to cater for 76 Long Day Care places and 15 Occasional Care places, all eligible for the Child Care Subsidy.

The rebuilt Greythorn Early Childhood Centre now serves as a hub of community services, co-located with an occasional care service, a local library, the local Returned Service League (RSL), Access Health, and the Maternal Child Health Service. This strategic positioning has enabled the center to form close relationships with all services, providing comprehensive support to the families who attend the service.

At GreythornECC, we take immense pride in attracting and retaining the highest quality educators who are exemplary professionals driven by a passion for excellence. We have built a strong pool of regular casual educators who are dedicated to our center, ensuring consistent care when permanent educators are on leave. Our educators are always committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.

As a community based, not-for-profit center, GreythornECC reinvests all profits directly back into enhancing facilities, resources, and programs for children, prioritising quality over profits.
